Hi Colts,

The day has come - the GRAND OPENING of the Cube! We have been working furiously over the break (and for the past 4 years) and are so excited to show off our new wing!

Students, you will enter something amazing tomorrow that is a part of history. But you still need to get to class. We plan to allow you to tour the building with your classes next week.

Parents, you will have a chance to tour the space at Colt Trail Drive in February. Alumni, you will have an event in March. We will send info soon on both. Please do not come to the building for tours just yet - we are ready for the kids, but we really aren't ready for visitors.

Here is some important information about our first day of the semester.

Morning Arrival/Drop off - SEE MAP

  • 1st period begins at 7:35. Doors open at 7am. We will have a very busy morning. Give yourself time for drop off.
  • NEW ENTRANCES: Gallery (Park Row) and Cube (Cooper Street)
  • Other entrances: New B and E Hall
  • The Gallery Entrance leads into A Hall and is located at the crosswalk on Park Row. (We will no longer use Main Counseling as an entrance.)
  • Tardy students will enter E Hall

Traffic Patterns

  • From Park Row Eastbound - 1st person: Pull all the way up to the crosswalk. When cars are stopped, all cars let students exit and go through Gallery Entrance.
  • From Park Row Westbound - Pull into the plaza parking lot (by Bethany's). Let student exit and cross at crosswalk into Gallery Entrance.
  • Students parking at MAC - Use New B
  • NEW!ĚýFrom Cooper Southbound - Use Cube Entrance and follow all signage. 1st person: Pull up to the second flagpole. When traffic stops, all cars let students exit from wherever they are within the circle and walk to Cube Entrance.
  • From Cooper Northbound - Turn left into E-Hall area and follow signage.
  • Grand_Opening_Traffic_Pattern_1-8-25
  • Cooper Street Traffic Flow

Student Entrances

  • Students entering during passing periods will use New B and Cube entrances (E-Hall will no longer be open at passing periods.)
  • Students returning from off-campus lunch will enter through New B, Cube, and E-Hall entrances.
  • Tardy students will enter E-Hall

Visitors

  • Cube Entrance is now the main entrance.
  • Visitors may park in the circle lot and enter the front doors to the new Main Office.
  • All visitors must show ID at the door.

Phone Calls on 1/8

  • All staff will be busy helping to direct traffic and help students with their new schedules.
  • Email as much as possible and give my staff time to prioritize your students during the day and respond to phone and emails as they can.

Schedules

  • Students will need to check self-serve for schedules.

Stick with me for just a little bit longer, friends. This has been a pretty magnificent journey and while it looks like it's done, we have some challenges ahead as we learn how to navigate and adjust midyear. We have grown stronger and closer as a team and we are still getting better each day as we continue ahead. I hope you all feel confident and know we will keep doing our best work for your kids.

Thank you for your support throughout this process. We are a part of history!

Sincerely,

Stacie Humbles, Principal

New Arlington High library is almost ready! /arlington-high-school/uncategorized/2025/01/07/new-arlington-high-library-is-almost-ready/ Tue, 07 Jan 2025 14:31:43 +0000 /arlington-high-school/?p=21604

New Arlington High library is almost ready

Addition funded by the 2019 Bond

The big addition atĚýArlington High SchoolĚýis scheduled to open Jan. 8.

But Arlington High’s librarian, Maryjane O’Halloran-Beane, is already moving in, getting the new library ready to welcome students. The fine arts programs – like band and orchestra – have gotten a jumpstart, too.

Is it going to be ready on time?

“Absolutely,” O’Halloran-Beane said.

“I’m so excited,” she said. “I’ve been the librarian for 30 years. For the first time in 30 years, I have windows.”

O’Halloran-Beane is excited about a lot of things. Just ask her, and she can give you a long list.

And for good reason. The open-concept library evokes a university feel and is eye-catching with towering ceilings and modern lighting.

New Arlington High library is almost readyThose are just some of the things O’Halloran-Beane likes. There are the lights and the wood strip ceiling that absorbs sound. There are quiet study areas, lots of seating, plugs and projectors. And there are multiple collaboration spaces – or “think areas,” as O’Halloran-Beane calls them – “areas where kids can come and work and collaborate.”

One of the think areas has a bunch of chess sets.

“I have a huge amount of chess players,” O’Halloran-Beane said.

And another area will include the Lego sets that are a huge hit with students.

“The new library gives the students more options, places to work, places to study and hopefully places to read,” O’Halloran-Beane said.

There’s just one thing O’Halloran-Beane doesn’t like.

“There’s not enough green in here,” she said.

But she’ll fix that. Green chairs are coming, and O’Halloran-Beane will add green with artwork and antique busts of famous authors that have a green tint.

The addition includes way more than the library. There’s a new front entrance, new classrooms, a new orchestra room, a new band hall, a new art room, a new art studio, a new dance studio and more – all funded by theĚý2019 Bond.

Good Morning, Colts!

Happy Finals Day!ĚýStudents will be taking their A Day finals today.

  • CTC/CVPA and other off-campus finals were taken earlier in the week, and those students will report to the cafeteria during their usual class time.
  • We reminded students not to bring backpacks today to help with quick arrival and transitions throughout the day.
  • Dismissal is at 11:35 and no lunch will be served.

Communication

Parents, I thank you all for your flexibility and patience, especially with me, as we finish the construction project. Right now, we are getting all of our furniture and materials moved in to be ready for January 8th.

Meetings with Mrs. Humbles

Due to an extremely heavy workload right now, I am asking for just a little more patience with me in terms of my response time to emails. If you need to contact me, please send an email to my secretary, Cinthia Avila (cavila2@aisd.net) and she will get a meeting scheduled. I must ask that you understand that we will schedule the meeting at my next available opening and that will not be immediate. I am open to scheduling meetings during the winter break and on weekends.

Grading Issues

If you have a grade issue, I will ask you to resolve it at the lowest level first. My clerical staff will continue to push parents to meet with teachers before meeting with administration. Please do not be hostile or aggressive with the staff when they adhere to this protocol.

Safety Concerns

If you have a safety issue, please contact your student's AP. Their response time is much faster and they are the appropriate contact for all discipline-related concerns.

Non-Emergencies

I will be working through my break to catch up on all of my communication. If you have sent me an email, I will get back to you next week. If you would like to send me an email, please do. I really do enjoy hearing from you. But I just may not get to it until next week.

Being responsive to my community is extremely important to me and I try very hard to give everyone my time and energy. I apologize for not being able to communicate as effectively these past few months.

I am so grateful for this community and all of those who have supported us and continue to do so. And even if you have acted in frustration with us, I understand. Believe me. I hope that we can all have a wonderful last week of the semester and enjoy some time with family and friends to recharge. And then, when everyone comes back in January, we are in for a treat with our new building.

Have a great rest of the week, Colts!

Sincerely,
Stacie Humbles, Principal
