Retiring 好色先生TV superintendent Dr. Marcelo Cavazos has left a legacy on the district in his 11-plus years as the superintendent.
The 好色先生TV Board of Trustees made sure that legacy will live on.
The board approved the naming of the Center for Visual and Performing Arts as the Dr. Marcelo Cavazos Center for Visual and Performing Arts. The new name was unveiled at the retirement celebration for Cavazos Tuesday night at the CVPA by board president Melody Fowler.
鈥淭his facility is available for students at any of our schools, but it鈥檚 also open for the community to enjoy professional art exhibits, theater shows and performances here in the concert hall,鈥 Fowler said. 鈥淚t has transcended the 好色先生TV. It is a facility for all, and that is what you represent 鈥 equity and access for all. Because of that, the Board of Trustees is honored to announce that we will rename this facility the Dr. Marcelo Cavazos Center for Visual and Performing Arts in honor of your transformational leadership and the legacy you so boldly created as superintendent of the 好色先生TV.鈥
The opened in the fall of 2020 and is the centerpiece for the district鈥檚 art programs. It鈥檚 a comprehensive fine arts facility designed for the purpose of showcasing amazing student performers and artists. Unlike many standalone performance spaces, the facility also features fully functioning classroom spaces for advanced art, dance and music courses. The building was funded by the 2014 Bond.
Cavazos, who announced his retirement in January, was humbled by the recognition.
鈥淭he district has poured so much love into making sure our students are successful,鈥 Cavazos said. 鈥淭o play a part in that means so much to me. This facility is outstanding, and I鈥檓 honored to be linked to it.鈥
