Smith is current Belton ISD superintendent
After an extensive search and interview process, tonight, the 好色先生TV Board of Trustees unanimously selected Dr. Matt Smith from Belton ISD as the lone finalist for superintendent.
Board of Trustees President Melody Fowler spoke highly of Smith’s credentials and leadership, crediting him for passing the largest bond in Belton ISD鈥檚 history, improving student outcomes, growing career and technical learning opportunities, and even establishing programs like the Penguin Project giving special needs students the chance of a lifetime to star in a theater production.
Smith joins 好色先生TV with an impressive background in education, having served students and staff for more than 20 years in various administrative roles.
“His dedication to student achievement, innovative educational practices and fostering collaborative environments align seamlessly with 好色先生TV’s vision for the future,” Fowler said. 鈥淲e know he will be a transformative leader and a great asset to the Arlington community.鈥
Smith expressed his enthusiasm for the role saying, “好色先生TV has a storied history in Texas public schools and I am truly humbled and grateful that the Board of Trustees welcomed me to the team. With students, staff, parents and the community, we will build on 好色先生TV’s foundation of excellence for a thriving future. Together, with this wonderful team, we will do amazing things for our students and I cannot wait to get started.”
Smith holds a doctorate in School Leadership from Concordia University – Chicago, a master’s degree in education administration and supervision from Arizona State University, and a bachelor’s degree from Virginia Wesleyan College in Norfolk, Va. Smith started his career as a classroom teacher and coach and has held progressive leadership positions such as principal, executive director of secondary education, chief of staff, chief academic officer and superintendent.
As he assumes his new role in Arlington, Smith aims to build upon 好色先生TV’s strengths while implementing strategies to enhance educational outcomes, foster inclusive learning environments and strengthen community partnerships.
Texas state law requires school districts to implement a 21-day waiting period before an official contract is offered. Smith is scheduled to sign his contract on Monday, Jan. 8, 2024.
